A few reflections on last night's Vespers service...

After a relatively lengthy discussion and rehearsal, we didn't do "I Will" after all. It has been added to the setlist, though, and I'm sure we'll do it soon, so don't fret (as the guitar said to the bass).

Having an audience (even a small one like a dozen people) focuses me. After our rehearsal on Sunday at Michael's, I wasn't really happy with my improvisations. But, a few missed accidentals aside, I felt on top of the solos last night. I find it easier to play expressively when there are people to express to.

During Vespers, a number of people shared some really nice thoughts about music, jazz in particular, and its affect on us. It's a real privilege to be part of bringing music to people.
